Over the past couple of days my thoughts have been with everyone impacted by the shooting tragedy in Parkland, FL. The impact is widespread and every community in the country is concerned about an incident like this occurring in their schools.
I want to assure you that the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. Barrington 220 works closely with area law enforcement agencies to create comprehensive crisis plans for all of our schools. These plans are reviewed annually and updated when needed. We also hold crisis drills with our students and staff each year, to better prepare them for an emergency. Additionally, a major component of our Blueprint 220 initiative is to include physical improvements in all schools to enhance safe and secure learning environments.
As we learn more about what happened in Florida, your children may have questions and concerns. Please click here to read some tips from the National Association of School Psychologists about how to talk to your children.
Finally, I will continue to advocate for policy at the state and federal level that allows for preventive measures and programs to avoid the unthinkable in our community.
Hug your kids every day and enjoy President's Day weekend.
