Dear Lines families

Thank you, we are so grateful for the all of the love and support that we have received from all of you over that last few months.     We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our school family and we know that there is no way we can adequately thank all of you.  But please know that your gifts of meals, groceries, and activities have all served to make our lives a little easier in these very difficult days.

With much gratitude,
The Kallas Family.

Recycling Competition

4/24 - 4/28

In the spirit of continuing our Earth Week Activities, we are having a recycle competition between classrooms and also with North Barrington School!  The Classroom that wins will decide on their prize with their teacher and we will do an all school celebratory prize if we win against NBS!

Save and Bring as much as you can of the following items.

Newspaper Sleeves, Plastic Shopping Bags,  Product  Wrap, Cereal Liners

Food Storage (baggies), pellet bags, Ice Bags, Salt Bags, Bubble wrap, Dry Cleaning Bags, Produce Bags, Bread Bags.  (Winning classroom chosen by weight of total bags.)

This effort will help educate about the effects of plastic in the environment.  Much of the single use plastic we use ends up eaten by animals. Annually approximately 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide. More than one million bags are used every minute.  The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is located in the North Pacific Gyre off the coast of California and is the largest ocean garbage site in the world. This floating mass of plastic is twice the size of Texas, with plastic pieces outnumbering sea life six to one.  Lets be hug the Earth and use less plastic. ♻️

A mazing F amily F riends and E ducators C oming T ogether - AFFECT

AFFECT was started by two District 220 families and two amazing teachers who saw a need in our community. We have a lot of families in our district with beautiful children with differing abilities who cannot always fully participate in school wide events. We wanted to find a way to bring those families together to participate more, have fun and provide support to each other. Our goal is to adapt at least one event/activity at each school to make it more accessible to all kids. What that will look like depends on the activity but it could mean opening early for families or providing a sensory friendly space to participate.

In February, we hosted a movie night at Countryside where we had a sensory friendlyroom, with adapted seating and closed captioning. We had several families across the district participate and it was a great experience for all of us. On April 28th we will host the school Art Fair at Countryside and will open that event at 5:15 so that families can participate in the crafts and other activities before the event officially starts at 6:00. Finally, on May 19 we will host a Fun Fair after school at 4:45 at Countryside where families can join in playing games and winning small prizes. Before the end of the school year, we will also post dates for events at schools across the district so you can mark your calendars for next year!

5th Grade Mother-Daughter Night

Calling all 5th Grade girls and their moms!

Mark your calendars for Monday, May 8th from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m., for a "girls-only" night to discuss the physical and emotional changes that are a part of growing up. Again this year, we are honored to have a guest speaker from the Robert Crown Center for Health Education who will share valuable information on the changes to come in a fun, informative and engaging way. This year's event will be held in the beautiful Barrington Area Library Meeting Room. Don't miss the chance to treat yourself and your daughter to a unique bonding experience along with fellow Lines mothers and daughters. Invitations will be sent home after Spring Break!
