What are these students holding up?  They are holding up 9.5 pounds of baggie/film waste that students bring in lunch bags and have thrown into our Trex Recycling Container in ONE month.  Luckily we will be dropping these off at Jewel or Target but many times they go straight to landfill or the ocean!!  By the year 2050 it is estimated that there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.

Recycle fact: Straws and plastic utensils are not recyclable. Interesting, right?

There are 86,386 elementary schools in the U.S. (according the to the Center of Education Reform).  So lets do the math.  If other schools have a similar # of students 820,667 pounds of baggies are thrown away a month in school cafeterias in the U.S.!!!  220's plan is to begin to limit straw use and encourage bringing reusable containers in lunches.

Lets reduce that number and protect our environment by reducing our use of single use plastics!

May, May 20!

Place: Downtown Arlington Heights

Save the date for the fifth annual Got2Run for Education. This is a fun, exciting 2.62 mile mini marathon or 8k run/walk in beautiful downtown Arlington Heights. A sizable portion of each registration fee comes back to Lines School for our wellness initiatives. Last year, Lines School received a check for $1058.75, largely due to a huge turnout of Lines Families and Staff.

We had over 70 registered participants.

This year, we would love to break the 100 participant mark! This is a great event to cap off our Running Club season and school year! Please check out the website, http://www.got2run.org for details.
Checkout out the flyer for more details.

5th Grade parents it's time to start thinking about Memory Night (date to be announced soon)!

The Memory Night Team needs your help for the 5th Grade Video. We are asking that each family contribute up to 5 photos of your child (group shots are best) at school activities such as class parties, Timberlee, Field Trips, school events etc. We are looking for pictures from Kindergarten through 5th grade. School events only. Pictures from private events (such as birthday parties) will not be accepted.

In addition to the group pictures, we plan to show each child's Kindergarten school picture along with their 5th grade picture. If your child did not attend Kindergarten at  Lines School, please provide us with his/her Kindergarten picture.

The deadline for photos is April 15th to the email address below. We will make sure that all children are represented equally.

Questions may also be directed to the same email address. Stay tuned for more details on this FUN Lines Tradition!

5th Grade Mother-Daughter Night

Calling all 5th Grade girls and their moms!

Mark your calendars for Monday, May 8th from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m., for a "girls-only" night to discuss the physical and emotional changes that are a part of growing up. Again this year, we are honored to have a guest speaker from the Robert Crown Center for Health Education who will share valuable information on the changes to come in a fun, informative and engaging way. This year's event will be held in the beautiful Barrington Area Library Meeting Room.
