We continue to have daily conference calls with the Lake County Health Department (LCHD) regarding the mumps virus in the Barrington community. LCHD has reported one additional confirmed case of mumps at Barrington High School, bringing the total to four confirmed cases. There are several suspected and/or probable cases at BHS, Prairie and Station Middle School. LCHD has reported one suspected case of mumps at Roslyn Road Elementary School as well.
With more than three confirmed cases at Barrington High School, we are partnering with the LCHD and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) to provide a free measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine clinic to eligible BHS staff and students.
LCHD has confirmed additional cases of mumps in and around the Barrington area. In order to reduce the spread of mumps throughout our community, please keep your child home from school if he or she experiences any of the signs and symptoms of the disease. Be sure to notify your child's physician as well as the school nurse.
