The Blueprint 220 future-ready facilities plan is moving along after completing building-specific community conversations at every school. Up next are two community meetings that will give in-depth looks at our PreK-12 fine arts and athletics facilities. Interested community members, staff, students and parents are invited to attend the fine arts discussion on April 10 and athletics conversation April 12. Both meetings will take place at 7 p.m. in the BHS Cafeteria.
Later this month, DLR Group will host two global perspectives meetings touching on trends in design for PreK-12, higher education and workplace facilities. Activities will include group ideation to gain feedback from stakeholders on what the future of Barrington 220's facilities might look like. All community members are welcome to attend meetings April 19 in the Station Middle School Cafeteria or April 24 in the Prairie Middle School Cafeteria. Information presented at both meetings will the be same and is not building specific. They will both be held from 7-8:30 p.m.
The community is invited to attend the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Family Expo on Sunday, April 9 in the Barrington High School Gymnasium. The free event takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features local business vendors, entertainment and hands-on activities for kids. Learn more by clicking here.
Elementary STEM program recognized with national award
The Barrington 220 Elementary STEM program won the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association's (ITEEA) Excellence Award for 2017. ITEEA recognizes exemplary science, technology, engineering and math programs from around the world with the prestigious honor. Elementary STEM teacher Becky McDowell accepted the award last month.
You're invited: ABCs of substance abuse panel discussion
Join Barrington LEADS and the Lake County Opiod Initiative for an informative prescription drug and heroin use discussion Thursday, April 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Barrington High School. A panel of subject experts will be leading the discussion. The event is free and open to the public.

The annual Barrington KidFest and Kite Fly is set for Saturday, May 6 from to 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Citizens Park. The free event includes kite flying, bird house construction and a variety of other family activities. The mission of the event is to inspire healthy habits, introduce nature activities and opportunities and encourage families to engage in outdoor activities together. KidFest is hosted by the Barrington Breakfast Rotary Club. A rain date is set for May 7.
