Several start time-related decisions were made by the board of education at its Sept. 20 meeting.
Middle school boundaries will not change.After reviewing the data provided by the new transportation software, estimated transportation efficiencies and cost savings by changing the middle school boundaries were not as extensive as previously anticipated. Therefore, the board chose not to consider a change.
Barrington High School will use a fixed eight-period schedule next school year. If the board decides to change start times for 2017-18, a proposed fixed eight-period schedule similar to the current schedule used at BHS will be utilized. In order to make program and operational changes necessary to implement the FlexPath model, the administration asked for more time to ensure a smooth transition.
A survey will be distributed to the community as early as next week.The electronic survey will be available to staff, parents, students and community members. Results from the survey will be one of several factors considered by the board when making its final decision.
Town hall meetings will be held in October.Community members will have the opportunity to talk with the board of education at the following town hall special meetings:

The board will continue to discuss the start time options at regularly scheduled and special board meetings through September and October before making a decision on Nov. 1.
