December 12, 2017

Good morning, BHS fine arts parents and students,

I hope you are all doing well and staying warm during this holiday season!  I wanted to send out some important emails and recognitions.

Middle School/High School Blueprint meeting TOMORROW

Fine arts parents who are available for tomorrow's BluePrint parent meeting should  should consider attending the BluePrint 220 middle school/high school parent meeting  (Wednesday, December 13) from 10am-12pm in the high school GRC.   It would be wonderful to have some fine arts parents there to represent the arts in questions and comments.

If you are unable to attend the meeting, please consider asking a question or leaving a comment through the BluePrint website: https://www.barrington220.org/Page/19332

  • Two students have been honored to be cast in the Illinois All-State theater production of Big Fish which is performing next month at Illinois State University.  Congratulations to Graeme Mahon and Mae Baustert!

  • Visual Arts student  Ayano Rexer's figure drawing was honored to receive the "Best in Show", 2D faculty award at the Harper Art Show, which is also extremely competitive and a great honor.

  • The BHS marching band was accepted to perform at the London New Year's Parade, 2018 in England!   Congrats to the band on this wonderful honor and experience!

Homemade Holiday, Clair Smith Art Gallery
Check out the "Home-made Holiday" exhibit in the Clair Smith Art gallery to purchase holiday gifts from local artisans.  It's a great collection of jewelry, prints, ceramics, and much more!

STEAM it up!
Oner the last few years our department has been excited to collaborate with science on some projects that bring the arts into STEM.  For example, a few years ago, some of our BHS dance classes recently collaborated with the science department on a "Physics of Dance" day were the two subject areas collaborated to better understand both movement and physics.  I was able to visit and loved watching students make connections between the two areas!

Happy Holidays,

Brigid Tileston
