Good morning, BHS Fine Arts Families,

Congratulations to a terrific first week in the fine arts! It was so enjoyable to see the students back creating in the visual and performing arts classrooms. Throughout the year we will offer various collaborations within the Barrington community, some of which are highlighted below.

The Barrington 220 Educational Foundation Promotes the Arts
The Barrington 220 Educational Foundation is proud to present “STANDING OVATION, Alumni Legends Celebrates BHS Performing Arts”. The 6th Annual Alumni Legends event will take place on Thursday, October 5 at 6:30 pm at Barrington High School. This year, the program will feature the following noted BHS alumni: actor, singer and dancer Colleen Zenk, classical pianist Marta Aznavoorian, and actor and singer Robby Kipferl. In addition, actor, director and producer Jeff Galfer and Broadway actor Katrina Lenk will participate in the event remotely.

After the program at Barrington High School, we will be hosting a reception at Barrington’s White House beginning at 7:45 pm.

At Barrington High School, the Performing Arts give students a path of self-discovery and expression, as well as a chance to explore meaningful connections across the spectrum of learning and knowledge. Through music, dance and drama, students learn to give voice to a broad range of human narratives, touching on experiences far outside the range of their everyday lives. As author Henry Miller wrote, “Art teaches nothing, except the significance of life.”

Please join us as we say “Bravo!” to the Barrington High School Fine Arts department. Visit us at www.220foundation.org to learn more about the event and to purchase tickets. Tickets for the reception can also be purchased on the Foundation website along with information regarding event Sponsorship opportunities.

Collaboration with the Barrington Area Library
Over the last two years, our fine arts department has been lucky enough to collaborate with the Barrington Area Library. Currently, the library is working with Chicago sculptor Barbara Cooper on a really fascinating project.
She’s using all recycled materials, in community workshops, to create a very large-scale artwork that will hang in the library atrium for approximately one year. It’s inspired by trees and forests, and libraries and communities, and is titled “Network.” Our BHS fine arts students are invited to collaborate with the project, beginning this Sunday. Please check out the attached flyer for more information on how to sign up!

Alumni's Architectural Work Featured in the BHS Fine Arts Gallery
Kerry Frank graduated from Barrington High School in 2013; while at BHS Kerry took art classes with Ms. Stevenson, Ms. Hargreaves, and Ms. Ross. Kerry attends the University of Texas at Austin where he is pursuing a dual major in architecture and architectural engineering; he is currently a doing his professional residency at Wheeler Kearns Architects in Chicago. His architectural renderings, conceptual imagery, sketchbooks, and a sampling of high school art work are on display in the Clair E. Smith Gallery from now through September 8th. Check out this exceptional art show while it is at BHS! It demonstrates how art combined with math, science, technology and engineering can be powerful indeed.

Thank you again for your continued involvement and support for the arts. Have a terrific weekend.
