The Barrington 220 School District is pleased to announce Barrington High School has been recognized as an
Apple Distinguished School for 2018–2021. BHS received the recognition for its implementation of the One to
World initiative, which provides all students with a MacBook Air device.
The One to World initiative is a learning program steeped in curriculum, pedagogy and professional learning. It
integrates 24/7 availability of technology devices, provides ubiquitous access to the Internet, and delivers a set
of innovative apps and services for learning and teaching. Teachers use Mac to rethink new forms of
classroom instruction, supporting personalized learning opportunities for all students.
Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence that use Apple
products to inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. They showcase innovative uses of technology
in learning, teaching, and the school environment and have documented results of academic accomplishment.

The BHS One to World program challenges traditional views of education by placing students at the center of
the learning and shifting ownership of the learning process from teacher to student. Through the use of
devices, students have access to course materials and online resources without the constraints of time or
place. Students personalize their learning by controlling pace and developing an individualized path to
