Fall sports update

Dear Prairie Families:

Please be advised that today the IESA has reversed its decision from a week ago as it pertains to golf, cross country, and softball, due to updated guidance shared on Wednesday by the Governor’s Office. Included in its decision for the return of fall sports, the IESA has also released specific parameters to which we at Prairie will need to review and implement in order to facilitate the safest possible experience for student-athletes, coaches, and spectators.

Prairie is committed to an athletic experience for students that is positive, supportive and enriching, all while following the parameters and guidance of the IESA and our athletic conference.

At this time the following sports will be offered at both Prairie Campus during the fall of 2020: Boys & Girls Golf, Softball, Cross Country. (Further decisions on Boys Soccer, deemed a medium risk activity by the Illinois State Board of Education’s All Sports Policy, will be shared soon.)

In addition, the IESA has also modified many of the sports seasons that come later in the school year to provide a framework for which we may be able to safely conduct our athletic schedules, based on the guidance given.

Please give us time to review and react to this latest update, making changes to our athletic programs as necessary.  As these changes are made, we will continue to update our school’s athletic website, which will include tryout details, start dates, and schedule adjustments.
The complete details of the communication from Steve Endsley (Executive Director of the IESA) is linked here

As always, we thank you for your continued support as we work through these challenging times. We hope that this step will help create some sense of normalcy for our students as well as their families.

Best regards,

Brad Gillette
