Veronica Roth visits Prairie
The Catlow, the former Baloney's Sandwich Shop and the historic homes are three of Veronica Roth's favorite things about Barrington. The New York Times best-selling author attended Grove Avenue Elementary, BMS-Prairie and graduated from Barrington High School in 2006.
On Friday, May 10, she returned home to Barrington to hold a nationwide live stream from her middle school alma mater, BMS-Prairie. About 150 Prairie students attended the discussion in the school media center. During the live stream, she talked about her path to becoming a published author, the process of active brainstorming, and how to tap into the creativity within us all. "Curiosity is hands-down the best quality you can have if you want to be a writer," Roth told students during the live stream.
After the live stream, Roth took questions from Prairie students and others watching the live stream from across the country. Roth also signed books for Prairie students.
Roth is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Divergent Series (Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant, and Four: A Divergent Collection) and the Carve the Mark series (Carve the Mark, The Fates Divide). Her short stories and essays have appeared in the anthologies Summer Days and Summer Nights, Shards and Ashes, and Three Sides of a Heart. The Divergent Series was developed into three major motion pictures.
After graduating from Barrington High School, Roth attended Northwestern University. She now lives in Chicago proper with her husband and dog and writes full-time.
