Start times survey

As part of our efforts at continuous improvement, we ask that you take a few minutes to complete this survey about the Barrington 220 Late Start Initiative. Once you log in to Infinite Campus, you can find the survey in your "Message Center".

In 2015 Barrington School District 220 Administration, Staff and the Board of Education began discussing the sleep habits of adolescents and the potential benefits of examining the time in which students start school. Over the course of the next two years, the district sought community input through meetings and surveys. After a vote by the Board of Education in the Spring of 2017, a new schedule for school start times was put in place. At that time, one of the commitments made by the district administration was to follow up with information gathering through informal and formal methods to ensure that changes made in start times continue to reflect the needs of our students. Last year, we found that the majority of survey respondents reported an overall benefit of the Late Start Initiative. Students tended to report more alertness in and out of school as well as their readiness for school. School nurses have reported fewer unscheduled visits to their office during the day. On average, parents, teachers and students reported an overall benefit of the initiative in terms of achievement, and personally. It is our commitment to continue to gather feedback from our stakeholders on the outcomes of this initiatives on our students, the community and our staff.
