Speech Tournament

  • Speech Tournament is an annual Barrington 220 district event for students in grades 4-8. To participate students need to find an adult to mentor and coach them, a script they will enjoy performing, and fill out a registration packet. Students can work alone and have a solo performance, or they can work in pairs, or groups of four.

The district purchases speeches for students to select from and they can be found with the School Coordinator on their Speech Tournament Schoology Group.
    • The code to access Prairie's 2020 Schoology Group is: K9QX-KDPS-36T35
There is an initial meeting held on December 16, 2019 afterschool in room 319 to inform students about the tournament. Applications and fees are due usually the first Friday upon return from Winter Break. Students then are provided a time-line of advise practice schedules to help them prepare for their performance. The tournament is usually held on the first Saturday in March at Station Campus.  The 2020 date is: Saturday March 7th.
The students are judged in the following categories.  Ribbons, participation certificates, and copies of the judging sheets are then provided the week after the tournament.
