Hough Elementary

An estimated $2.9 million out of the $147 million referendum was spent at Hough Street Elementary, which includes all construction costs and non-construction items such as safety and security, furniture and technology. Key projects included:

  • Building a new addition on the west side of the building, which will include a sensory space for students and resource rooms
  • Renovating the library to include a STEM space
  • Installing handicap accessible ramp to front entrance

Construction at Hough began in Summer 2022. The handicap accessible ramp was completed for the start of the school year. The new STEM lab and new addition were completed in March 2023.

The new STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology, Math) lab is located next to the library. Opening up the glass doors creates collaborative spaces for students to work in both areas.

Sensory Room

Thanks to the Build 220 initiative, all Barrington 220 elementary schools have a dedicated sensory room. This room provides students with a therapeutic space where they can focus themselves so that they can be better prepared to learn.
