One objective under Framework 220's Health & Well-Being strategic priority is Social Media Awareness & Digital Citizenship. The goal of this objective is to:
Identify and implement a district-wide process to address the use of social media and digital citizenship in a healthy, safe manner; include opportunities for students and staff to gain a deep understanding of how social media sites and apps and digital citizenship can affect multiple aspects of student and staff life both in and out of the school environment.
In October 2024 Barrington 220 formed a Social Media Awareness & Digital Citizenship Advisory Committee. The committee includes representation from key stakeholders across the district (Students, Parents, Community Members, and Barrington 220 Staff), as well as experts in the field. During the 2024-25 school year, the committee is gathering data and reviewing current practices and procedures surrounding this topic.
Committee members are participating in two book studies, featuring The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt and Growing Up in Public by Devorah Heitner,.
