Welcome to Middle School

In both middle schools, students have an eight-period day where they rotate between classes. School starts at 8:52 a.m. and ends at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday schedules are slightly altered to accommodate early release. Students begin at 8:52 a.m. and end at 3:10 p.m. on Wednesdays. You can find a daily schedule below, and it's also linked in the top right corner of each school's website.

Students take the core subjects of English Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science.

They are also enrolled in physical education and can choose a world language to study among French, German, Mandarin, and Spanish.

NOTE: 6th graders take a world language for only 1 semester during the year; it may be 1st semester or 2nd. The other semester, 6th graders rotate through exploratory classes.

Students have several other exploratory options they can choose from, including:

• Musical Theater/Dramatic Arts
• Orchestra
• Technology Lab I (PLTW)
• Technology Lab II (PLTW)

You will see a spot on your student's schedule designated for Colt Time. This is a time designated for enrichment, intervention, and student support. Students are able to visit teachers and get extra support on assignments for class or work on projects during this time. Band, orchestra, and chorus classes may also utilize this time for extra practice and instruction.

Barrington 220 provides bus transportation at no charge to families who are residents within the Barrington 220 boundary area and who live 1.5 miles or more from their district-assigned school, or who live in an area declared to be hazardous as determined by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Barrington 220's school bus service provider is Barrington Transportation Company.

All middle school students have a 30-minute lunch period built into their schedule. Students are able to bring a packed lunch from home or can utilize the food services provided at each middle school. You can load funds into your student's account for lunch through Infinite Campus. Outside deliveries for lunch are not permitted.

INFINITE CAMPUS

As part of the "B Here. B Now. B Engaged." expectations:

• During the academic day, personal devices brought to school must remain powered off and out of sight, including, but not limited to, smartphones, smartwatches, headphones for recreational use, and other personal devices.
• Devices are not to be used in restrooms or locker/changing rooms.
• iPads will be allowed at lunch, however, there will be iPad-free areas in each lunchroom for students and families who wish to not use technology at lunch time.
• Certain devices may be permitted only when authorized by staff for educational purposes.
   

Students with documented medical needs requiring personal smart devices may use them with prior approval from the school administration. Documentation from a medical provider may be required. Recommendations must be documented on a student's health care plan, 504 plan, and/or with the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The principal may approve emergency exceptions.
 

Your laptop or iPad should be used for EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.  In order to use the laptop or iPad, you must be willing to accept the following terms and responsibilities:

• ·Will read the Acceptable Use Policy and discuss it with your parents/guardians.
• Will adhere to the terms of the Barrington 220 Acceptable Use Policy and District guidelines each time the laptop or iPad is used.
• Will fully charge the battery every day at home.
• Will place the laptop or iPad in a secure location when not using it in class.
• Will keep the iPad in its district-issued case.
• Will make the laptop or iPad available for inspection by an administrator or other staff member upon request.
• ·Will use appropriate language in all digital communications.
• ·Will abide by copyright laws.
• ·Will not use or attempt to use another student’s assigned logins, files, or personal information.
• Will not give out personal information, such as name, address, photo, or other identifying information online, including username and password.
• ·Will not use the laptop or iPad to record (audio/visual) others without their permission.
• Will not change or attempt to change the configuration of, install, or remove software or hardware.
• ·Will maintain sufficient memory space on the laptop or iPad to accommodate all school-related content.  Required school content must take priority over personal content.
• ·Will report all problems and damage immediately to their teacher.

All incoming 6th graders need proof of a recent physical along with some required immunization records. Those participating in athletics may also need additional medical forms. Visit our Health Services page to learn more about what is required.

How do I report an absence?
If a student is absent, we ask that a parent enter into their Infinite Campus Parent Portal and use the “Report Student
Absence” option from the left-hand column to report their student’s absence. If you encounter any issues, you may also call in the absence any
time before 10:15 AM by calling the main office. If a student is not marked or called out absent by a parent/guardian by 10:15 AM, our automated
calling system will call the contact numbers from the parent portal. Students arriving after 8:52 AM are considered tardy and need to sign in at
the front office.

How do I handle late arrival and/or early departure?
If your child will be arriving late to school, please call the front office to let them know and they may enter the building and sign themselves in when they arrive. If your child will be departing early from school, please call the office to let them know. When you arrive to pick up your child, you must come into the building to sign them out. They will NOT be called out of class until you are physically in the front office, so please leave enough time for this procedure.
