Library Programs K-5

Each elementary school contains a comprehensive library media center staffed by a full-time certified teacher librarian and equipped with a wide variety of print and non-print materials. Our libraries are learning laboratories with librarians ensuring continuous access to a wide range of learning tools and resources in school and at home. All district libraries provide open access to the information tools and content for 21st-century learning – books, eBooks, computers, laptops, handheld digital devices, online content libraries and databases, videos, educational software, online search tools, and other digital learning tools. Along with access to the digital learning tools and content, teacher librarians provide instruction and guidance on how to use tools safely, appropriately, and effectively.

Library Programs 6-8

Middle school library programs work within curriculum areas using flexible scheduling. Middle schools use a team approach, enabling the teacher librarians to teach in a truly integrated fashion. The teacher librarians work cooperatively with the library technology assistants to demonstrate to students how technology and the world of information strategies and libraries go hand in hand.

Library Programs 9-12

The Barrington High School Library supports all students with a wide range of books, resources, and technology. It is a library with no boundaries, a vibrant learning commons where excitement about inquiry can be seen and felt. Students can access 3D printing, create and design in our “Box” (creative lab). The collection of more than 22,000 print books include a wide variety of classics, nonfiction, and new fiction. The full-time, certified librarians teach lessons in classrooms designed to empower students to locate authoritative information, to defend their sources, and to navigate collegiate level databases. Students and faculty may “Ask a librarian” a question 24/7, via the BHS Library site. Digital access to our eBooks and eResources are also available at all times. Our library design, our lessons, and interactions with students are done to encourage all students to develop a love of lifelong reading and a drive to continue learning beyond the walls of Barrington High School.
