    Playground Initiative!

In fall 2018 the Barrington School District sent out a report to the school PTOs with detailed ratings for all of the playgrounds in the district. The current Lines playground received a "poor" rating and is currently the worst rated playground in the district. (see report here - the only school in the district with a playground rated worse had the playground equipment removed last fall.) Our current playground equipment was installed in 1999 with a 15 year life expectancy. As we cruise into the 20th year of the playground, there is plenty of visible wear and tear on the equipment, and as we move forward, the playground is only expected to continue to deteriorate.

The Lines PTO would like to move forward with replacing the playground equipment especially as we celebrate the Lines 50th anniversary in the 2019/2020 school year! We know that play and activity is an important part of our students' social and emotional development in elementary school. Our vision is to create an inclusive playground that inspires plenty of active play, sparks joy and cultivates friendships across all grade levels, abilities and interests. This is no small task, but one we believe will benefit the children at our school and in our community for many years to come!

There are many things to consider as we move forward making this vision a reality for our students. The Executive Board of the PTO and the School District will work collaboratively to insure that this project is in compliance with all necessary laws and regulations. Initial estimates for a new playground are in the $150-200,000 range - all of which will need to be fundraised - which is where our amazing community comes in!

We hope that you will "come play with us!" as we launch this exciting initiative at the Adult Social on Saturday. Fundraising for a new playground is our major goal for the 50th anniversary year and we couldn't do it without YOU! We would be so grateful for your help, support and feedback. There will be much to do in the coming months, so please stay tuned for additional emails regarding fundraising, planning and more!
