The Barrington 220 School District is committed to providing a full continuum of services and support for students who are eligible for special education. As part of our continuum, we offer instructional programs to meet student needs.

An Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) is a plan or program developed to ensure that a child who has a disability identified under the law and is attending an elementary or secondary school receives specialized instruction and related services.

In compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA 2004), the Barrington 220 School District provides child-find evaluations and special education services to parentally-placed students attending local private/parochial schools or students who receive homeschooling.

Barrington 220 is committed to providing students with identified special education needs with the services and support that they need to benefit their education. Related services are identified by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team and are documented in the student’s IEP.

Parents may contact the building administrator of their child’s school to ask that their child be evaluated for special education. This request may be verbal or in writing.

Students with disabilities who do not qualify for an individualized education program under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, may qualify for services under Section 504 of the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973

CharacterStrong is a pre-K through 12th-grade social-emotional learning (SEL) resource that integrates character development with SEL competencies. The program provides lessons and activities that focus on cultivating kindness, building strong relationships, and enhancing student well-being. By fostering character traits like empathy, respect, and perseverance, CharacterStrong aims to improve school culture and increase student engagement and success.

Barrington 220 collects and maintains student records in compliance with the Illinois School Student Records Act (105 ILCS 10/2) and the Illinois State Board of Education Rule 23 Ill.Admin.Code §375.10. All reasonable measures are taken to prevent unauthorized access to or the dissemination of student records.
