• Lines PTO

    WHO:

All parents are welcome to be a member of the Lines’ Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

    WHAT:

The PTO plans, coordinates and sponsors a wide variety of school activities and fundraisers. These committees fall into these broad categories:

    • Fundraising - The goal of these committees is to raise money so that PTO can help teachers purchase additional classroom materials, sponsor PTO programs and purchase larger priced items for the entire school. Some examples of these committees are the Adult Social, Family Fundraiser, Box Tops, Book Fair and Spirit Wear Sales.

    • Programs/Events - These are the bulk of the committees and range from social events, to cultural arts assemblies, to service projects, to reading clubs.

    • Communication – These committees are responsible for getting the word out.We have a website, weekly electronic newsletter, and an information board.

    WHEN:

PTO meetings throughout the school year.  Meeting locations may vary. Any parent is welcome to attend. Young children are welcome to attend!

    WHY:

PTO meetings are a wealth of information about Lines and the rest of the district.

    • Executive board and committee members provide updates on activities and events
    • Learn about programs or events that might interest your child
    • Hear from Principal about school news (i.e. new district curriculum, testing schedulings, school improvement plans, construction projects at the school)
    • Be informed about activities at the middle schools and throughout the school district.
    • Here presentations from guest speakers such as parenting experts, Middle School Counselors, Lines Staff, etc.

    HOW:

    How do I get involved?

    • Contact PTO President
    • Talk to other parents to find out more about committees in which they are involved.
    • February - look for information from the nominating committee about PTO committee chairperson positions
    • August - look for information online and via email about PTO volunteer opportunities.
    • If chairing a committee is too much of a commitment then signing up to be a volunteer can be a great way to help and get involved.

During the annual school registration process, parents are requested to pay PTO dues per family online.  This nominal fee covers the cost of basic organization overhead, and the multitude of educational, cultural and social opportunities offered by the PTO.  On average about 90% of our families are PTO Members.

Over the past several years, Lines PTO has funded the following:

    • Replaced the floor in the school gym with a safer, more durable flooring
    • Fully funded and supplied books for the Lines Literacy Library
    • Purchased SMART boards for use in the classroom
