Sandra Ficke-Bradford - President
Sandra Ficke-Bradford joined the Board of Education in 2009. She previously served as Board Secretary and Board Vice-President, before fellow Board members elected her to serve as President in 2021. Sandra currently serves as the Board's BACOG liaison and ED-RED representative. In the past she has served on the following Board committees: Policy, Health Insurance, Labor Management, and Resource Allocation. Sandra holds a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a master’s degree from Northwestern University. She is the mother of three children and lives in Barrington. Leah Collister-Lazzari - Vice President
Leah Collister-Lazzari joined the Board of Education in 2019. Her fellow Board members elected her to serve as Board Vice-President in 2021. She currently serves on the Board's Finance Committee and the district's Equity Committee. She also serves as the Board’s representative to the PTO Presidents' Council. Leah works as an attorney and real estate broker. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law. Barry Altshuler - Secretary
Barry Altshuler joined the Board of Education in 2019. His fellow Board members elected him to serve as Board Secretary in 2021. He currently serves on the following Board committees: Facilities and Legislative. He also serves on the district's Health Insurance and Referendum Construction Steering Committees. Barry has worked as a pediatrician in the Barrington area for more than 30 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a medical degree from Northwestern University. In his free time Barry enjoys swimming, reading and traveling. Erin Chan Ding
Erin Chan Ding joined the Board of Education in 2021. She currently serves on the Board's Policy Committee, as well as the district's Equity Committee and Resource Allocation Committee. She also serves as the Board's IASB Governing Board representative. She holds a bachelor’s of science degree from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, where she also double majored in history with a Latin American concentration and wrote a 100-page honors history thesis on the Chinese in Mexicali, Mexico, during the Mexican Revolution. She works as a freelance journalist for a variety of newspapers, magazines, websites and nonprofits. In addition, she co-founded and co-directs the national freelance affinity group for the Asian American Journalists Association and she is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors. In her free time, Erin enjoys running, tae kwon do and she is currently learning to play the cello. Erin and her husband moved to South Barrington in 2011. They have two children. Katie Karam joined the Board of Education in 2021. She serves on the Board Facilities Committee and the district's Safety and Security Committee. She also serves as the Board's representative to the Barrington 220 Educational Foundation. She was born and raised in Barrington and attended Countryside Elementary, Barrington Middle School, and Barrington High School. After graduating from BHS in 1995, she attended Miami University where she received a bachelor of arts degree in English. She is currently a stay at home mom to her three children, ages 10, 12 and 14. In her free time, Katie enjoys running, playing tennis, traveling and cheering on her kids. Steve Wang joined the Board of Education in 2021. He serves on the Board's Finance Committee and the district's Health Insurance, Labor Management and Resource Allocation Committees. He is a director of finance for the tenth largest not-for-profit health care system in the United States. Steve holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Notre Dame in Corporate Finance and Business Economics. In addition, Steve has a triple minor in Chinese (language and culture), Latin American Area Studies and European Studies, as well as a Certification for International Business from the Mendoza College of Business at Notre Dame. In his free time, Steve enjoys spending time with family and friends, exercising, cooking, reading, traveling to new places, volunteering for a variety of causes, being a room parent at Countryside Elementary School, being a co-leader for Girl Scout Troop 310, and being a board member for the Notre Dame Club of Lake County.
