2018 Safety Week (Sept. 24-28)
This week Barrington 220 is holding its first ever Safety Week, which runs Sept. 24-28. The goal is to raise awareness about school safety among our students, parents, staff and community members.
At the beginning of each school day, all students will view a one minute video that has a "Safety 220 Tip of the Day". Each tip will correspond with a safety theme for that day of the week. In addition to a safety tip for students, each video will also have one tip for parents. The theme for Day 1 (Monday, Sept. 24) is Weather Emergencies.
In addition to daily videos, all schools will be participating in various safety activities throughout the week. On the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 25 Barrington High School plans to hold a safety drill that will involve students evacuating the school. As a result, Main Street in front of the high school will be temporarily blocked off by emergency vehicles. PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS JUST A DRILL.
On Tuesday, Sept. 25 Barrington 220 is also partnering with Barrington Police and Fire to host a School Safety Community Night. The event will begin at 7pm in the BHS auditorium. All community members are encouraged to attend. Topics will include:
-Various school safety measures Barrington 220 has taken in recent years
-How the school district and law enforcement communicate during a school crisis situation
-How parents, community members, law enforcement and the district respond to a school crisis situation
-How the school district and law enforcement work together year-round to keep our schools safe.
We look forward to partnering with the community to keep our schools safe!
