    Welcome Back!
I find myself reflecting on the year and I can't believe we only have two more months left in the school year!  The year has flown by and all of our students have worked very hard.   Our 3rd and 4th grade students experienced a new STEM unit that brought out the creativity and innovation with each of them.  The PTO sponsored a fundraiser that supported the installation of a climbing wall that each of our students will get to experience prior to the end of the year.  Our teachers have spent countless hours developing lessons and activities that not only engage the students but meet their individual needs.  They deserve a lot of praise for the progress the students have made and will continue to make as the year comes to a close.  I hope you all had a wonderful break and are ready to finish the year strong.

     Testing Season
    Testing

The testing season has arrived.  You will receive specifics from the teachers but I want to make sure you have the overview of what lies ahead.  During this testing time I ask that you get your children to bed early and have a healthy breakfast.  This will give them a necessary advantage when taking their tests. 2nd grade through 5th grade will take the MAP test starting this week.  You can see the dates above.  After we complete that the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade will start the PARCC test.  It is important for the students to give their best effort on these tests but it should not be a stressful time.  We will do all we can to make it a positive environment including having a fun assembly in between the two testing sessions and ending the testing window with a Kindness Karnival (explained later in the newsletter).

    Pick-up and Drop-off Procedures
Please remember to use extreme caution as you are dropping off your students and picking them up in the afternoon.  The process is very simple and information about the traffic flow can be found on-line.  The end of the day works very smoothly if you allow your child to get into your car on the passenger side.  It also helps if you do not exit your car when picking up your child.  The entire process usually takes about 7-9 minutes at the most.  I realize with many activities starting up that you need to get your children to specific locations, but their safety is more important.

     Polling Place

On April 4th we will be hosting the local voting in our gym.  The school will be secure and all precautions will be taken to make our building a safe environment during this time. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to give me a call.  We are very optimistic that this will be the last election that will be held at North Barrington.Vote

    Climbing Wall
As you can see from the picture the climbing wall has been installed and is ready for use.  Thank you again to everyone that donated money at the PTO fundraiser to purchase the wall.  I know that Ms. Evelo and Mr. Bush look forward to getting all the students on the wall prior to the end of the school year.  I am excited to see the kids faces when they first see the wall. Climbing Wall

    Kindness Karnival
On April 28th we will celebrate our students that have met and exceeded behavioral expectations.  If you remember prior to winter break we had a "Horseshoe Hoedown" reward day.  These days are filled with fun activities as a reward for students earning 25 horseshoes.  They earn horseshoes for being responsible, respectful and safe throughout the building.  We are also handing them out for being kind to others which ties right into the theme of the day.  There will be more information to come about volunteer opportunities during this fun-filled day.

    In the Community
Incoming 6th grade Parent Orientation Nights

Each year the two middle schools provide an evening program for parents with a child moving to sixth grade. The orientation night is designed to provide an introduction and overview of the opportunities and programs available at middle school. In addition to learning about middle school programs, parents will have a chance to meet staff members and tour the schools. The programs will run from 6:00-8:00pm. Station’s night is Wednesday, April 5th, and Prairie’s program is Thursday, April 6th. More information will be coming home from the middle schools in the coming weeks.
