Proposed Plum Farms TIF District Development
UPDATE: In her report at the Jan. 14, 2020 Board of Education meeting, Board President Penny Kazmier announced the Board will not challenge the dismissal of a lawsuit, related to the Plum Farms development. In July 2017, neighbors who live near the proposed development filed a lawsuit against the developer and the Village of Hoffman Estates, challenging the zoning of the property. Barrington 220 joined the lawsuit, due to concerns that the cost of additional students living in the development would exceed the tax revenue created. Click here to read the Board's full statement.
The Village of Hoffman Estates has proposed a tax increment financing (TIF) district including a large residential area at the northwest corner of Routes 59 and 72. Current plans call for 1,305 residential units but that number could grow to 1,500. A large portion of this development will fall within Barrington 220's boundaries, with serious concerns regarding its financial impact on the school district.
