    MAP Testing

This week we will be administering our MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) test to all 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Students in second grade will take the reading portion on November 7th and the math portion on November 8th.  Students in grades 3rd-5th will take the reading portion on November 9th and the math portion on November 10th.  The test will be administered in the morning on each of the days that have been specified.  Please make sure that your children have a healthy breakfast and get a good nights rest.  Information about the MAP test can also be found in the virtual backpack.

    Flag Ceremony Flag Ceremony

We are excited to be holding a  flag raising ceremony on Veterans Day, November 11, 2016.  The whole school along with members from the Lake Barrington Veterans Association, Girl Scouts,  Brownies, and Boy Scouts will meet out in front of the flagpole at 9:00 am for a short ceremony.

    Drop off/pick up times-
    Car Line

The students are enjoying getting extra time on the playground each morning.  Students can be dropped off directly at the playground starting at 8:40 am.  Unless your child is participating in a before or after school activity, please remember the students proceed to their locker at 8:55 am.  All students should be in their class at 9:00 am so instruction can begin.

    Classroom Treats

In our school we do have students that are allergic to many items. The most common one is peanuts.  Due to district guidelines, baked goods are not allowed to be passed out in the classroom.  Please make sure to check in with the room coordinator about class parties such as our Halloween and Holiday Parties.  For birthdays, students are welcome to pass out non-edible treats such as pencils or stickers.  A link is provided that gives ideas that are considered peanut and/or allergy free.  Latex balloons are also prohibited.  Only Mylar balloons can enter our building.  Thank you for understanding and working with us on these topics.  Article about nut free alternatives.
Food Recovery Program at NBS / Green Corner Information
As many of you know we are continuing with our recycling initiative at NBS.  On November 15th it is America Recycle's Day.  Please make sure your children wear green and pack as much of a green lunch as they can.  They should also try to limit the amount of items they throw away.  The best way to do this is to use containers that they can bring home to wash.  In addition to recycling, we partnered up with Walk on Farm (http://walkonfarm.org/) for half-eaten apples and carrots. On average, we collect 6 to 8 pounds a day. The recovered half-eaten apples and carrots are taken to the stable twice a week by NBS volunteers--Wed. and Fridays.  Another way we are eliminating waste is by donating food to the Cuba Township Food Pantry.  The 5th graders will be logging how much food is donated each Friday.
