Meet the Team
Russ Schellhase, Head Athletic Trainer, Certified / Licensed, FMS, FAS, GT Cert., DN2 Cert.
Russ started his carrer in athletic training in 1994 after graduating with a bachelor's degree in Commercial Fitness (VA) and a sports medicine degree from North Central College (IL). He helped to open and run the Sports Medicine Center at Northwest Community Healthcare. Russ has worked with many athletes of all levels from the Special Olympics, Olympic Swim Trials, NFL, MLB, collegiate and high school. He has extensive training in functional movement and exercise and has presented and trained others on the topic. He has treated patients in the outpatient rehabilitation clinic while holding the Head Athletic Trainer position before starting at BHS.
Russ is very excited to be working at Barrington High School and says the best thing about his job is, "The satisfaction of taking an athlete fresh off an injury, working hard with them to recover and rehabilitate and sharing the excitement and sense of accomplishment as they return to their sport. Kids now are highly trained and very talented. It is great to work with them to develop their full potential. It is humbling and a blessing to be a small part of it."
Russ was a Division I athlete and continues to be actively involved in sports. He feels this has helped him to excel in his field and to help others get to where they want to be.
Tone Shinaul ATC/L
Tone Shinaul graduated from Whitney M. Young High School in 2008. He attended Northern Illinois University where he earned his bachelor's degree in Athletic Training in 2012. Tone previously worked as an outreach AT for Accelerated Rehabilitation Centers and Athletico Physical Therapy at Elgin High School from 2012-2018. In May 2018 Tone took the AT position at ATI Physical Therapy at BHS. We are glad to have him as part of the team.
Erin Arnoff, ATC/L
Erin graduated from St. Charles East High School in 2011 and then attended Illinois State University where she pursued Athletic Training and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in the field. As of 2015, she has worked for ATI Physical Therapy as an Outreach Athletic Trainer for Barrington High School.
Dr. Craig Cummins, Md, SC, Lake Cook Orthopedics

Dr. Cummins joined Lake Cook Orthopedics in August of 2001 and has developed an orthopaedic practice with a primary focus on the management of sports medicine and shoulder disorders. Dr. Cummins has been one of the team physicians for Barrington High School since 2001 and can typically be seen on the sidelines at the Broncos football games, both home and away.
Dr. Cummins is widely published and continues to be involved in clinical research with a primary focus on patient outcomes. Dr. Cummins is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and is one of less than 5% of orthopaedic surgeons with a secondary board certification in sports medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. Additionally, Dr. Cummins has served as an instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America and has consulted for various orthopaedic companies, including Mitek and Arthrex, teaching basic and cutting edge arthroscopic techniques, to orthopaedic surgeons across the country.
Dr. Cummins leading-edge techniques, with proven methods, provide his patients with the best sports medicine and orthopaedic care possible. Dr. Cummins seeks to develop a dialogue with his patients to help them fully understand the diagnostic process, their own unique problem, their treatment choices, and the recovery process. He believes that knowledgeable patients make the best decisions about their own treatment and enjoy the best outcomes.
Dr. Dan Di Irio, Md, Integrated Care, Inc.

Dr. Di Iorio recently opened his own private family practice in Lake Barrington, IL. Integrated Care Inc. focuses on direct care for families as well as sports medicine services including concussion recovery. Dr. Di Iorio is certified to interpret the complex results of Impact computerized neurocognitive testing. With these results, he will shepherd the student-athlete through their full recovery process. Dr. Di Iorio has presented nationally on various topics related to mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) and is an outstanding resource to the Barrington School District.
