    Dear Hough Parents,

The week of September 24th will be when all Barrington 220 schools focus on educating our students on school safety and the components that are in place to keep us safe each day. During the morning announcements at Hough Street School, I will spend a few minutes talking about various components of safety. A short video will highlight those things that are discussed in the classroom. As we partner together to keep all safe, I would encourage you to spend time revisiting these topics at home with your child.

The Safety Week points of interest include:

    Monday, September 24th……. Weather Emergencies

    Tuesday, September 25th……. Law Enforcement

    Wednesday, September 26th..Well Being/Safe Behaviors

    Thursday, September 27th……Evacuations

    Friday, September 28th…………See Something/Say Something

Please join me on Tuesday, September 25th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at BHS as we will come together as a district to discuss keeping our students safe in all of our schools.

I neglected to mention at our Back to School Night last week one more way in which we can help ensure that our students remain safe as they are dropped off in the mornings. Please avoid dropping off your child near the school on Lincoln Avenue. We have a crossing guard in place on Lill Street to assist children crossing. This will free up the area near the buses that are dropping off students in the morning and will prevent children from crossing the street unassisted.

It’s hard to believe that we are four weeks into the school year already. We are off to a great start.

    Mr. Aalfs

Last Call: Hough Lunch Helpers Needed

Want to help students learn to separate compost, recycling, and garbage? Of course you do. Click here to help save the planet. (Unless you are a crow.)

    Box Tops For Education®

By clipping coupons and sending them into Hough, we earn cash that can be used to buy anything we need. (Like jorts. GLORIOUS JORTS!) We earn 10 cents for each one you clip. (And send in, obviously. Clipping them and leaving them on your island only gives you a giant pile of box tops with which to make homemade jorts, which is of course exactly what you would do with them because why wouldn’t you?) Please attach box tops to a collection sheet or bundle them in plastic sandwich bags. Collection sheets can be found here.
