Join us at Barrington High School (lower front atrium) on Monday, Sept. 9 to learn more about the $64M referendum and take a tour of the current auditorium, music classrooms, and fine arts classrooms.

At the August 13 Barrington 220 Board of Education meeting, the Board unanimously voted to proceed with a referendum seeking voter approval to address safety, security, and instructional needs at our schools, as well as build a new community auditorium at Barrington High School.

More than 2,500 community members collaborated throughout 2024 on a plan to address these challenges. The district then worked to make that plan even more efficient and fiscally responsible, saving taxpayers $11.5 million.

The final $64 million community-driven plan would cost the average district household an additional $236 per year. This plan will now go to the community for final approval in the upcoming November 5, 2024 election.

If successful, the referendum will:

  • Increase Safety & Security throughout Barrington 220
  • Build a New Community Auditorium at Barrington High School
  • Enhance STEAM and Instructional Spaces for Students

The community's plan for the future of our schools would ensure all Barrington 220 students have access to the quality education they deserve. It would allow us to alleviate safety concerns, address accessibility, improve programming, and increase opportunities for all our students. We could better protect the community's investment in our buildings and safely support the community's desire to use our high school for more events. All of this leads to an even higher quality school district, which leads to higher property values for our residents, and a stronger community.

Pursuant to School Board Policy 2:150, the Board of Education may establish committees to assist with the Board's governance function and, in some situations, to comply with state law requirements. Each committee reports directly to the Board of Education. Committee members may include both Board Members and non-Board Members depending on the committee's purpose. Committee appointments are made at the organization meeting of the Board that is held following the consolidated election in April of odd numbered years. Committee meetings are typically held once per month. The purpose of the Policy Committee is to review existing policies, recommend changes where necessary, and propose new policies for consideration by the Board.

"I believe Barrington 220 is truly an amazing school district. I have worked in several positions in D220, which has afforded me a unique perspective of the ways that students learn and grow within our different school communities. I have also experienced firsthand my own children thriving as students and benefitting from all that Barrington 220 has to offer. As Superintendent of Schools, I look forward to building upon our strong academic programs and rich innovation history as we implement our Framework 220 Strategic Plan."

Barrington 220 is a place where students establish the fundamentals to forge their own paths. We read, write, think, discuss, and create. As a current faculty member and proud graduate of Countryside, Prairie, and BHS, I look forward to working with students every day to create the next generation of thinkers, learners, and creators. There's nowhere else I'd rather teach. I'm proud to work in Barrington 220 and I'm glad you're here.Cary WaxlerBHS Social Studies Teacher

Barrington 220 is an innovative school district that provides a breadth of offerings which prepare students to successfully pursue their passions. The support of our community is second to none. Barrington 220 has done a great job with building avenues for us to explore. For example, there's choir, band and orchestra to explore the fine arts. There's robotics club, scholastic bowl, speech tournament, spelling bee. You can learn about languages, you can learn about cultures, you can learn about different types of people in general. Zar RomanStation Student

Teaching is shining a light on your students' paths. I love providing a nurturing environment for students to learn, making connections with families, and fostering a strong feeling of community. Together, we grow!Sandra ChangGrove Avenue Teacher

I really like the Barrington 220 School District because I think it's an enjoyable place and I feel like when you walk into any building it's a positive environment. Cami FordBHS Student

I love how Barrington 220 schools offer a bunch of unique opportunities such as the Spanish Dual Language Program, which I am fortunate to be a part of. It's such an eye-opening experience and when you get older it's almost a sense of biculturalism, which I think is very awesome to be a part of.Emerson WulbeckerPrairie student
