Countryside Dine and Share

Save the date!  February 1 will be the next Countryside Dine and Share with PRIMO PIZZA.  Take a break from cooking and treat your family and friends to great pizza and other items from Primo Pizza.  Primo Pizza will donate 10% of TOTAL sales back to Countryside PTO.  This Dine and Share is for the entire day - 11:00 am - 9:00 pm.  Look for a flyer to come home in your child's backpack.  Spread the word!

Enrichment Program is coming February 7

Beat the winter blues with Enrichment classes offered every Tuesday after school during the month of February. The dates for Enrichment are February 7, 14, 21, 28, with a snow date of March 6.  Course catalogs were sent home with students this week.  The course catalog can also be found online at www.countrysidepto.com.  Please note that the catalog erroneously states the price for the Little Rembrandts class as $20. The price is actually $22 for that course.  We are very pleased to be offering online registration this year.  Details are provided in the course catalog. Registration will be open from January 24 at 7 a.m. to January 29 at 5 p.m. Please contact Janet Bresch (jzbresch@comcast.net) or Jen Smith (guandjesmith@yahoo.com) if you have any questions.

Cultural Art Fair Needs Your Help!

We are seeking volunteers to help fifth graders create some fantastic dancing Dragons for our upcoming Cultural Art Fair on February 24. Each fifth grade class is working on a paper mache dragon head with Ms. Martin in art class. The dragons need bodies so that dancers can fit inside and entertain their fellow students in the days leading up to the Cultural Art Fair, which will be a celebration of Chinese food, art, culture and music. That’s where you come in! If you are interested in helping with this project, please contact Sandra Chlebek at Sandra@chlebek.com or 847-551-1112 or Jan Faulkner Janice_faulkner@yahoo.com or 847-277-0252. All materials and directions will be provided. Sewing ability will be helpful.

BHS PTO Morningline- February 2, 9:15-11:15 a.m., BHS Auditorium
Dr. Yong Zhao, author of "Catching Up or Leading the Way: American Education in the Age of Globalization"

The February 2 PTO Morningline program will feature one of the most engaging speakers in education today. Dr. Yong Zhao is currently Presidential Chair and Associate Dean for Global Education at the University of Oregon. Dr. Zhao's insights and humorous approach to serious topics endear him to audiences wherever he speaks, as he discusses what is right and wrong with American education today. Learn how creativity and social-emotional learning are still the hallmarks of instruction, and why the Chinese education system begs the question, "Are we catching up or leading the way?" Join us from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. in the BHS auditorium.  Questions may be directed to Ann Kimes at akimes@comcast.net.

Six Flags Program

Enjoy a good book over the weekend and complete the Six Flags Read to Succeed challenge by February 10.  By reading for fun for six hours, your student will receive a free ticket to Six Flags.  Reading logs, including parent signature, are due to classroom teachers by February 10.  Logs are available on the Countryside School PTO website.  No late forms will be accepted.  Tickets will be distributed with the final report cards.  Contact Liz Kinsella with questions at treasurercspto@gmail.com  or 312-953-4289.
