  • Barrington Council for the Gifted and Talented - January Events

    Friday, January 20th  - 9:30-11:00am – Barrington Area Library – Zimmerman Room – BCGT presents Coffee and Conversation. – A SENG (Social and Emotional Needs of Gifted Children) video presentation by well-respected psychologist and gifted education advocate Dr. Sylvia Rimm. The topic will be “ The Gifted Child - Super Achiever or Under Achiever – Parents and Teachers Make the Difference.” Please join us in what is to be an informative discussion on addressing both ends of the spectrum. Dr. Sylvia Rimm has been a long-term correspondent for NBC’s Today Show and has authored over 22 books on gifted education.
     
    Monday, January 30th – 6:30-8:00pm – Barrington Area Library – Meeting Room – “BCGT Presents Science Night. Discovering the Importance of Science in Everyday Life.” District 220 teacher and Science Consultant Susan Lenz will be facilitating a hands-on discussion of science experiments including parachutes, spinning tops, golf ball towers and other interesting projects.
     
    Monday, January 30th  – 6:30-8:00pm – Barrington Area Library – Zimmerman Room – BCGT presents Challenges of Gifted Education – A SENG video presentation by Victoria Ragsdell, PhD and Clinical Licensed Psychologist. Is it a Gift or a Curse – What it Means to be an Outlier and What to do About It.  Please join us in an informative discussion of the challenges of being an Outlier. We suggest that the parents enjoy the video presentation while the kids are busy at Science Night.
