7th Grade General Music
Course Description:
The purpose of General Music is to expose students to a wide variety of musical elements, composers, and literature.
Enduring Understandings:
Students will appreciate and understand music from a variety of time periods. Students will understand the musical elements utilized by composers to convey their works.
Essential Questions:
Students will consider the relationship between music of the past and current music. What effects does music have on my life?
Course Academic Vocabulary:
Melody, Harmony, Rhythm, Accidentals, downbeat, upbeat, and numerous Italian terms.

Composers (Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Stravinsky, Cage, Mercury, Haydn, Wagner)
Compositions (Beethoven’s 5th, Mambo from West Side Story, Rite of Spring, Ride of the Valkyries, Magic Flute)
Elements of Music: Melody, Harmony, Rhythm
