Summer Camp Info

"You cannot win a championship in the off-season, but you can certainly lose one."

June:
Captains' Camp
When: M-F, June 10th - June 28th, 8:00 am til 10:00 am
Where: BHS Track
The camp in June is run by our team captains and coaches are not present.  This is a great way to informally meet or reconnect with your teammates and take personal ownership of your training.  Our program in June is focused on general fitness and overall athletic capability.  Our running is designed to build a strong cardiovascular base to prepare for the rigors of the season ahead.  This training phase is essential to maximize your success and improvement and to avoid injury as the intensity of the training increases in the next phase.  This camp is not mandatory but highly recommended for all athletes considering cross country.  It may also be used for general conditioning to prepare for other sports.

July:
BHSXC Camp
When: M-F, July 1st - 23rd 8:00am til 10:00am
Where: BHS Track
This is the official summer camp for cross country.  Coaches are present and the training builds from the fitness base that was established in the first phase during June.  We will introduce the standard warmup routine and many of the training practices we will follow regularly throughout the year.  Athletes can use this camp to become accustomed to the kind of practices we will be having during the season and our training is more sport specific as we begin to introduce the workouts we will be doing all season long.  To register for this camp go to the summer school website at http://www.barrington220.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=2268 .  Participation in this camp is strongly encouraged for anyone who wishes to be a member of the cross country team in the fall.

Wisconsin Camp
When: July 24 - 27
Where: Devil's Lake, Baraboo, Wisconsin
This camp is available to sophomores, juniors, and seniors by invitation only.  In order to be invited, a runner must participate significantly in the June and July camps to ensure that they are prepared for the high mileage and rigorous training that will take place.  Devil’s Lake provides a beautiful, natural setting with miles of trails ideal for running.  We use this camp to establish our goals and set the tone for the season ahead.  This camp includes intense training along with classroom sessions in which runners are expected to become students of the sport and engage in personal improvement.  There is also significant time for recreation in the idyllic natural surroundings.

August:
Regular Season
When: Season begins August 13th at 8:00 am
Where: BHS Track
After the August blackout period (no organized practice allowed) the season officially begins on Wednesday, August 13th.  While the camps were optional, attendance at practice is mandatory during the season.  Any runner wishing to participate in cross country should report to the BHS track at 8:00 on this date.  Please be sure to have taken care of your physical and get your "pink sheet" well in advance of this day.  Runners without their pink sheet will not be allowed to practice with the team.
