Barrington High School is once again among the elite 2009
list of
America’s top 1,500 high schools according to the current edition of Newsweek Magazine. The
Newsweek list places Barrington High School in the top 6 percent of all high schools throughout the United States. At number 675 in the national ranking,
Barrington is the 14th highest rated school in Illinois. Only 47 of 782 Illinois schools
made the roll.
This is the sixth year in the last seven that
Barrington High School has made the Newsweek list, which is based on the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests
taken by all students at a school in 2008 divided by the number of graduating seniors.
This distinction follows Barrington High School
recently earning a prestigious 2009 Silver Award from
U.S. News and World Report magazine, which recognized only 37 of 782 public high schools in Illinois as among the best in the nation.
“We are very proud of our students and the many
ways they succeed compared to other schools nationwide,” said Barrington High School Principal Steve McWilliams. “This level of recognition underscores the
positive academic culture and supportive community from which we all benefit.”
