Inclement Weather Procedures

As the weather becomes severe with more threats of ice and snow, I want to review three procedures that may be implemented due to severe weather conditions. The first is our Late Start procedure, the second one is our Early Dismissal Prior to Noon and the third is Early Dismissal After Noon.

The decision to implement these procedures is made after carefully assessing the given weather situation. The safety of your child is at the forefront in the decision making process. For further information on inclement weather conditions, please check your local TV or radio station, and the school and/or district website.

Late Start Procedure
Late Start procedures will be implemented when there is clear evidence that if the start of the day is delayed approximately an hour and a half from normal, it will be safe to transport your child. On Late Start days elementary schools will begin at 10:30 a.m. and end at the normal time. Morning kindergarten will begin at 10:30 a.m. and end at 11:35 a.m. The start of the Early Childhood program will also be delayed by an hour and a half, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and ending at 11:35 a.m. The parental decision to send your early childhood student or kindergarten child to school is an individual one.

I am aware that many parents rely on the KEEP Program for childcare before school . Unfortunately, the KEEP Program will not be able to operate on days when there is severe weather in the morning. Many of the excellent people who work with your children have other commitments later in the morning. Regular food service will be provided on late start days. Late start will only be implemented when the school's schedule needs to be adjusted for safety reasons.

Early Dismissal Prior to Noon
There may be some occasions where it will be necessary to dismiss prior to noon. On these days, middle and high schools will be dismissed first. Elementary schools will be released about 45 minutes later. No afternoon kindergarten or Early Childhood bus routes will run when this procedure is implemented. Please be assured that no child will ever be sent to an unattended home.

Early Dismissal After Noon
There may be some occasions where it will be necessary to have early dismissal. On these days, middle and high schools will be dismissed first. Elementary schools will be released about 45 minutes later. No afternoon kindergarten or special education bus routes will run.
