On Tuesday, January 26th, 2010, the student body and faculty at Countryside
Elementary, along with the Kids Feeding Kids Club, held an assembly for a
check presentation ceremony. The Kids Feeding Kids Club donated $20,107.31
to the Northern Illinois Food Bank - Youth Nutrition Program which helps
feed hungry kids in 13 counties in northern Illinois. Mrs. Bellagamba's Kindergarten class presented the check on stage in front of the student body.
The money was raised from the sale of the Club's first fundraiser, the
*Kids Feeding Kids Cookbook*. Carson , a kindergartner in Mrs. Bellagamba's class, came up with an
idea to create a cookbook for kids by kids. This idea evolved into creating
the Kids Feeding Kids Club in 2009. Carson, along with hundreds of other
children, donated their favorite recipes to the *Kids Feeding Kids Cookbook*.
In one month, the Kids Feeding Kids Club was able to collect over 800 recipes. Several celebrities also donated their recipes to this book such as Oprah Winfrey, Maria Shriver, Sean Hayes and Chris O'Donnell.
The Club's
mission is to build awareness, compassion and a foundation of philanthropy
to last a lifetime for the children involved. We believe the earlier the concepts of philanthropy are introduced, the more likely kids will stay engaged in activities of charity and volunteerism into adulthood. To learn more about the Kids Feeding Kids Club, visit:
