  • Barrington Area Library Book Sale; Wed. June 16th, 9am-12 noon set up & heavy lifting, 12 noon-4pm sorting & set up; Thurs. June 17th, 9am-4pm sorting & set up; Fri. June 18th, 9am-4pm sorting & set up; Sat. June 19th, 9am-5pm book sale; Sun. June 20th, 1-5pm book sale; Mon.   • Hands of Hope Barrington Antique and Garden Faire; June 14th-17th, pre-faire set up:  clean, tag & organize goods to be sold, work a 2-hr. or more shift from 9am-6pm; June 17th unload vendor vans at Faire site, 3-hr. shifts from 8am-6pm; June 18th & 19th, Faire volunteers needed for half-day shifts, 9:30-12:30 or 12-4 for general event assistance, food service volunteers needed from 10-2; contact Carol Hinkle, hohvolunteers@ameritech.net or 847-381-2273

  • Barrington Area Council on Aging History Project; help interview and record conversations with 25 Barrington area senior citizens regarding their memories of local history, events and life in Barrington 25 years ago; interview training will be provided beginning in June; contact Sarah Hoban, shoban@bacoa.org or 847-852-3891

  • Field Museum Summer Teen Volunteers; teen facilitators will work with program manager to facilitate hands-on experiences for families in the Playlab, throughout the museum’s exhibitions, and conduct art activities in the Art Studio within the Playlab; must volunteer a minimum of one day per week; see Mrs. Bauer for more information

  • Animal House Shelter; help socialize animals by playing with and walking them; you must be 16 yrs. old; open seven days a week, 11am-7pm, choose your own hours; located in Huntley, 20-30 min. drive; www.animalhouseshelter.com for driving directions; to volunteer, visit the shelter and fill out paperwork, set up start date
  • Alden Estates Nursing Center; help with daily tasks, e.g. wheeling clients to meals; help with regular organized activities, e.g. bingo or “snack & chat”, special events e.g. parties/celebrations; contact Jehd Tieanzo, Activities Director, 847-382-6664, eb_activity@aldengroup.org
  • Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce; office work and miscellaneous projects, after school on a regular basis; contact Janet Meyer, 381-2525
  • Barrington Area Library; library assistants needed to shelve videos & books, contact Betty O’Grady, 382-1300; computer assistants needed to help patrons log on, print, scan, etc. evenings, weekends, some afternoons starting in September, contact June Lee, 382-1300
  • Fantastic Ride middle school mentor program; for sophs.-seniors only; Barrington Youth and Family Service provides training for this once a week mentor program in which you’ll be paired with a middle school student for one-on-one and group activities; Mondays from 3-4pm, all semester/year long; optional field trips and one in-service per month from 4-5pm on Monday; school year only
  • Community Crisis Center; (mothers and children in crisis) children’s activities Sat. mornings; contact Sally Hoffman, 697-2380

  • Citizens For Conservation; prairie restoration, every Sat. 9-11 meets @ HQ Rt.22, (call 382-7283) www.citizensforconservation.org
  • Cuba Township Food Pantry; help sort & organize donated food; contact Cheryl Tanaka or Kate Formichella, 381-192
  • Good Shepherd Hospital Volunteen Program; must be 15 yrs. old; volunteer a 2-3 hour shift once a week; must serve 80 hours before leaving the program (pick up an application from Mrs. Bauer or at the hospital)
  • Grove Avenue School one-on-one tutors; sophomores-seniors only, during the school year, once a week after school, must be available for the entire semester (see Mrs. Bauer, school year only)
  • Home of the Sparrow; a transitional shelter program that provides housing & comprehensive supportive services for women & children who are homeless. There are volunteer opportunities for childcare in our shelters in Crystal Lake & McHenry or volunteer work at our thrift stores in Palatine, Cary or McHenry.   • Peer Jury Program; administered through the Village of Barrington Police Dept.; training provided; time commitment about 3 hrs./month; pick up an application from Mrs. Bauer or from the Barrington Police Dept., 400 N. Northwest Hwy., 847-304-3300

  • Walk On Farm Equine Assisted Therapy; therapeutic riding program for children with physical, cognitive, social & emotional disabilities; training provided; located in Barrington; contact Mary Illing at 847-381-4231, www.walkonfarm.org
  • Wellness Place; (Wellness Place is a cancer support/education/resource center in a ‘homelike,’ non-clinical setting located in Palatine), after school receptionist, mailings, weekend outreach programs; contact  Annette Wegener, volunteer coordinator, 847-221-2400, www.wellnessplace.org
  • Wellness Place “Belongings” store on Cook St.; needs volunteers with lots of muscle power to move large pieces of furniture; store benefits an organization which provides support services for cancer patients; contact Annette Wegener, 847-221-2400
  • Writing Lab Peer tutors; during the school year, tutor during your free hours at school; contact Mrs. Dionosotes in the English Dept.
  • Woodland School Pre-School/Kindergarten Library; assistant, during the school year once a week after school on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30-5:00; see Mrs. Bauer for more info
