March
- Woodland School Family Fitness Nights; every Tues. & Thurs. from now through May 27th (except March 18th and April 4th) from 5:30-7:30pm; supervise/play with children in gym, activities such as indoor play gym and Dance Dance Revolution; parents will be on site attending exercise class
- Countryside School Book Fair; set up Fri. March 12th, 3:45-5:30pm
- Walk On Farms Equestrian Clinic; help with set-up and staff information tables, give directions, food set up and clean up; training session and tour at date/time to be determined; Fri., March 26th, 5-9pm; Sat. March 27th, 8am-5pm; Sun., March 28th, 8am-5pm (spring break)
- Lines School tutors needed; sophomores through seniors only, bilingual tutor for a 2nd grade ELL student, after school once or twice a week
- Bilingual Spanish tutor needed for 7th grade student; jr. or sr. only, once a week, 3:30-4:30pm, tutoring will take place at Sunny Hill School on Mondays
- Sophomores through seniors: math tutors are needed once a week after school at Sunny Hill, Mondays from 4-5pm. If you are interested, please see Mrs. Bauer
- United Way Youth Board applications are available; freshmen thru juniors are invited to apply to become a Youth Board member; great leadership opportunity, work closely with United Way staff & Board of Directors; attend board meetings to represent youth of our community; identify volunteer opportunities & encourage participation among fellow students; participate in service & fundraising projects; mentor younger board members. If chosen, your commitment is to serve through high school graduation. See Mrs. Bauer for an application. Deadline is April 1st.
April
- Special Olympics Track & Field Competition; volunteer sign-up deadline is April 13th for event on Sun., May 2nd from 7am – 4:30pm; various jobs available, including athlete chaperone; lunch provided; see Mrs. Bauer for an application
- Test Grading; help grade tests after school at BHS on Wednesdays, April 14, 28, and May 12, 2:15-3:15
- Hough St. School Childcare for STEP parenting class; care for children while parents attend a class in the same building; 6:30-8:30 on any of the following dates: Wednesdays, April 21st and 28th, May 5th
- Smart Farm; Smart Farm is an educational garden for the Barrington area; adults, children & students can learn about their agricultural heritage, organic gardening, the slow food movement, and best practices for living “green” sustainable lives; volunteers help grow vegetables, using the latest techniques in pest management, water & soil conservation, and composting; volunteer on Sat. April 3rd to build 3 raised beds with 2 hoop houses; Sat. April 10th build 3 potato bins; Sat. April 17th build trellis; hours are 10am until 2-4pm (until the job is completed), work as long as you can; drinking water provided; bring a sack lunch & work/garden gloves; wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty
- Hospice of Northeastern Illinois; Hospice is moving to a beautiful new facility in Barrington and has many volunteer needs from April 25th - 30th based on the move; see Mrs. Bauer for more information
- Lake County Arthritis Walk 2010; Sat. April 24th, Adler Memorial Park in Libertyville; participants needed (you can form a team with friends); event volunteers needed; cheerleaders/poms needed to cheer on participants at start & finish; see Mrs. Bauer for more info
May

- Barrington Area Council on Aging History Project; help interview and record conversations with 25 Barrington area senior citizens regarding their memories of local history, events and life in Barrington 25 years ago; interview training will be provided beginning in June
- South Barrington Nature Conservancy Grand Opening Celebration; Sun., June 13th; volunteers needed for traffic control, greeters, and general event assistance; shifts available, times TBD

- Animal House Shelter; help socialize animals by playing with and walking them; you must be 16 yrs. old; open seven days a week, 11am-7pm, choose your own hours; located in Huntley, 20-30 min. drive; www.animalhouseshelter.com for driving directions; to volunteer, visit the shelter and fill out paperwork, set up start date
- Alden Estates Nursing Center; help with daily tasks, e.g. wheeling clients to meals; help with regular organized activities, e.g. bingo or “snack & chat”, special events e.g. parties/celebrations; contact Jehd Tieanzo, Activities Director, 847-382-6664, eb_activity@aldengroup.org

- Fantastic Ride middle school mentor program; for sophs.-seniors only; Barrington Youth and Family Service provides training for this once a week mentor program in which you’ll be paired with a middle school student for one-on-one and group activities; Mondays from 3-4pm, all semester/year long; optional field trips and one in-service per month from 4-5pm on Monday; school year only

- Good Shepherd Hospital Volunteen Program; must be 15 yrs. old; volunteer a 2-3 hour shift once a week; must serve 80 hours before leaving the program (pick up an application from Mrs. Bauer or at the hospital)
- Grove Avenue School one-on-one tutors; sophomores-seniors only, during the school year, once a week after school, must be available for the entire semester (see Mrs. Bauer, school year only)
- Home of the Sparrow; a transitional shelter program that provides housing & comprehensive supportive services for women & children who are homeless. There are volunteer opportunities for childcare in our shelters in Crystal Lake & McHenry or volunteer work at our thrift stores in Palatine, Cary or McHenry. We also need volunteers to work on committees and fundraising projects/events; contact Sophia DeVries, 815-444-1660, ext. 26
