Office - Energy Management
The Energy
Management Committee is pleased to announce
from July 1, 2007 through October 31, 2007
the District has conserved 330,599 kilowatt
hours for a total savings of $20,894. The committee
has developed an energy conservation plan which
encourages all staff to support the efforts
of reducing energy consumption as well as incorporating
these ideas into student curriculum. We are
encouraged with the results to date and anticipate
increased savings as the year progresses.

At Barrington Community Unit School District 220 we take great pride in our facilities.
We strive and are committed to providing
the students and staff with a clean, safe,
comfortable environment that is conducive
to learning. The District has a responsibility
to our community to operate our buildings
in a safe and efficient manner. |
With this
in mind, the District recently formed an Energy
Conservation Committee to formulate a plan to
conserve energy costs. Making a commitment and
educating the staff are the first steps to a
successful energy conservation plan. The comprehensive
plan will identify ways to conserve energy costs
and increase energy efficiencies. We believe
if everyone works together to conserve energy,
the district can save approximately $750,000
over the course of the next five years, not to
mention, shape effective life-long conservation
habits for both staff and students.
A portion
of these savings will be expended to upgrade
the educational program by hiring more teachers,
purchasing additional computers and instructional
materials, or meeting other educational needs.
As a result, Barrington Community Unit School
District 220 will be conscientious by conserving
taxpayer dollars and expending these dollars
to bring the greatest benefit to the students
and the community.
For the 2007-2008
school year, Energy Conservation Efforts will
include:
- A "Top
Ten List" of ways to conserve energy in the District. This list was created by the Energy
Conservation Committee and was distributed
to all staff who were asked to post the list
in each classroom as well as common areas.
(View the Top Ten List)
- A new
Energy Policy created by the Energy Conservation
Committee and approved by the Board of Education.
(View a copy of the policy)
The Committee
will continue to monitor energy consumption and
create energy awareness in the District as well
as seek ways to reduce energy costs by collecting
data and determining how to improve efficiency.
We will provide other energy conservation updates
as the year progresses.
